carried out in various hospitals, homes for the elderly
and residential complexes, as well as for the new NATO
headquarters. The company is involved in the building of
new prisons in Beveren and Dendermonde.
Established in Sint Truiden, > Betonac specialises in the
construction of concrete and asphalt roads and of major
civil engineering works. Betonac employs more than 300
people and has a well-equipped laboratory to monitor
the quality of concrete and asphalt mixtures as well as its
own design office. Betonac has also been active on the
private projects market and has successfully completed
projects for Armasteel, Elia, Vopak and Kraft.
Betonac has been involved in the construction of nearly
every concrete or asphalt motorway in Belgium. For
instance, the company resurfaced the A3, the E19 and
the E411. In addition, the maintenance contract for the
Province of Liège is still in progress. The redesign of the
junction of the E313 and the E314 near Lummen is largely
complete. In 2011, Betonac’s asphalt plant (BAM Asphalt)
in Vinalmont had its busiest year, which means that it has
doubled its workload in the space of four years. Betonac
specialises in laying concrete road surfaces and relaid the
concrete surface in both directions over seven kilometres
of the E313 between Ham and Beringen in 2011.
Betonac installed noise barriers along major transport
arteries, such as the E313 at Hasselt, the E314 at
Heusden-Zolder and the E411 at Hoeilaart, under a
contract with the Flemish Government.
Betonac joined forces with Breda-based sister company
BAM Rail to take over Carmans Spoorwerken of Alken.

The other civil engineering projects include everything
from tunnels and bridges to quay walls. A range of major
projects are in progress in the Brussels region for the
Belgian railway infrastructure manager, Infrabel, as part
of the Gewestelijk ExpresNet (Regional Express
Network). Betonac is working with sister company Galère
on one of the most important projects in this transport
plan in Genval and with another sister company, CEI-De
Meyer, and a company called Jan De Nul on the expansion
of the railway infrastructure at Watermaal-Bosvoorde.
Betonac ended 2011 successfully with the start of work
to build a new lock in Antwerp’s Waasland Harbour,
which is one of the largest infrastructure projects due to
take place in Flanders in the next few years.
> CEI-De Meyer has approximately 450 employees and is
based in Brussels and Nazareth-Eke (near Ghent). The
company’s civil engineering division continued work on
giant projects such as the Liefkenshoek Railway Tunnel,
Schuman-Josaphat and the Diabolo project in 2011. The
projects that were delivered included the modernisation
work along the route of the River Leie through Kortrijk,
infrastructure for the Gewestelijk ExpresNet regional
express network in and around Brussels (especially in
Limal, Watermaal-Bosvoorde and Rixensart), the new
bridges over the Nete in Duffel and the bridges at the
Flanders Expo site known as ‘The Loop’ in Ghent. The
bridge over the Albert Canal in Riemst was completed at
the end of 2011. CEI-De Meyer has been working on
several projects for industry customers, especially in the
Port of Antwerp. Storage tanks were successfully
installed for Ineos and Sea-Tank, for example.
The Buildings division also had a healthy order book in
2011 with work ongoing or starting on unique projects
such as HanzePark in Bruges, Dossinkazerne barracks in
Mechelen, a residential care centre in Sint-Niklaas, an
administrative centre in Willebroek, a service centre in
Boom and the Vanderelst office block in Leuven.
