Bestätigung der Autorschaft des Gemäldes anhand
von Fotomaterial.
Der Dargestellte, Bartolomeo Comagni, war ein reicher
Florentiner, der in London wohnte und sowohl im
Handel als auch in Finanzgeschäften erfolgreich war,
so finanzierte er Kriege für Henry VIII. Ein ähnliches
Portrait Compagnis ebenfalls von Pier Francesco
Foschi wird im Cummermuseum unter der Inventarnummer
AP.1984.3.1. Jacksonville, Florida verwahrt.
Der Maler war im Zeitalter des Manierismus in Florenz
tätig, als Schüler von Andrea del Sarto und Assistent
von Pontormo war er an den Freskenausmalungen in
Careggi, 1536 tätig. Von seiner Hand kennen wir drei
Altarbilder, die 1540 - 1545 für die Kirche Santo Spirito
in Florenz entstanden. In seinem Werk ist der Einfluss
von Bronzino deutlich spürbar. Am meisten haben ihn
seine Portraits, die 1530 -1540 entstanden, bekannt
gemacht, darunter das Damenbild, das sich im Museum
Thyssen-Bornemisza befindet.

We would like to thank Professor Carlo Falciani for his
verbal confirmation identifying the present painting
as a work by Foschi based on photographs.
A similar portrait of Compagni, also by Pier Francesco
Foschi, is held at the Cummer Museum of Art and
Gardens, Jacksonville, Florida under inv. no. AP.1984.3.1.
Bronzino’s influence is clearly noticeable in his œuvre.
He is best known for his portraits created between
1530 and 1540, including a portrait of a lady held at
the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
