Filtration and separation:
trends for the process industry
With constant growth rates, the
global market for industrial filtration
continues to surprise with innovations
– this was also evident at
FILTECH. An overview of promising
trends.
Separation and filtration are becoming
finer and more precise, more digital
and more intelligent. With the defining
trends in mind, industry players
are preparing for the most important
platform in the sector. When FILTECH
invites visitors to the trade fair and
congress in November 2024, experts
from all areas will exchange ideas,
discover new technologies and shape
the future of separation technology.
Which topics will occupy the industry
in the near future? An overview of application-specific
developments.
AI: Boost for soft drinks
Artificial intelligence has enormous
potential for various industries, including
filtration. It enables real-time
monitoring and optimization of filtration
systems, improves efficiency
and minimizes energy consumption.
Adaptive systems automatically adjust
to changing conditions, while AIbased
quality control increases filtration
accuracy and efficiency.
Filtration as a Service
Filtration as a Service (FaaS) is a new
concept for the business use of filtration
technology: instead of filter elements,
operators book throughputs.
Companies can use filtration services
on demand without having to deal
with equipment investments or maintenance.
FaaS enables a focus on core
competencies and always up-to-date
filtration technology with an integration
of monitoring and optimization.
Pharmaceutical production:
Safe products thanks to
activated carbon
In the food and pharmaceutical industries,
filtration requirements are becoming
particularly stringent. Activated
carbon is increasingly being used
to remove unwanted by-products,
discoloration and odours. Two trends
can be identified: pro ducts in powder
form and filter sheets with bonded
activated carbon, which offer even
greater safety and purity.
Wine: Filtration problems due to
Botrytis- and Oidium-contaminated
grapes
The 2023 wine year brought various
challenges for producers, such
as oversupply in various regions and
climatic extremes. The filterability of
the wine is impaired by unclear young
wines and clogged filters, especially
in the case of botrytis- or oidium-infested
grapes. Filtration specialists
offer solutions such as enzymes and
laboratory tests. Climatic conditions
could increasingly force such measures,
which is why winegrowing specialists
are already preparing for
them.
Food: Stricter regulations through
better testing procedures
Increasing precision in food testing
increases the demands on filtration.
Systems must meet higher standards
and be regularly monitored and
maintained. Fine filtration technologies
such as membrane or nanofiltration
are becoming more popular because
they remove even the smallest
impurities.
Innovative solutions for complex
processes
Separation technology is diverse. In
all areas, the filtration and separation
market is poised for growth and
change. As companies recognize the
importance of filtration in maintaining
product quality and environmental
responsibility, the demand for
advanced filtration solutions will continue
to grow. At FILTECH, attendees
will find solutions that can meet every
need - today and in the future.
