Procedure:<br />
The inspector will begin the official OBD II inspection with a visual check of the<br />
OBD II system, followed by an electronic scan of the vehicle’s OBD II system, using the<br />
Workstation scan tool.<br />
Items to Inspect:<br />
(a) <strong>Check</strong> for obvious signs of tampering of the OBD II system, such as wiring<br />
modifications to the DLC. <strong>Vehicle</strong>s with signs of OBD II system tampering<br />
will fail the inspection.<br />
NOTE: The vehicle will receive an electronic OBD II system scan regardless of the OBD II<br />
Visual Tampering <strong>Check</strong> result.<br />
<strong>Check</strong> to ensure the DLC can be connected to the Workstation OBD II scan tool<br />
module. If not, the inspector must determine whether the DLC is damaged, missing, or<br />
obstructed.<br />
NOTE: The vehicle will NOT receive an electronic OBD II system scan unless it passes the<br />
DLC check.<br />
