MEDIA KIT<br />

7 District Disaster Management Committees (DDMCs), 7<br />

Village Disaster Protection Units (VDPUs), <strong>and</strong> 7 District<br />

Focal Point Units (DDFPUs). A memor<strong>and</strong>um from each<br />

Provincial Governor <strong>and</strong> District Governor was circulated<br />

to clarify roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities of each units <strong>and</strong><br />

member agency in <strong>disaster</strong> <strong>risk</strong> <strong>management</strong>.<br />

Capacity building of DDFPUs through workshops<br />

<strong>and</strong> training activities, <strong>and</strong> side-by-side coaching was<br />

conducted to ensure that district offi cials are equipped<br />

with technical skills to assist <strong>the</strong> pilot villages implement<br />

<strong>the</strong> activities especially after project completion. At least<br />

four DDFPU coordination meetings were likewise held.<br />

DDFPUs assisted 7 vulnerable villages implement <strong>disaster</strong><br />

<strong>risk</strong> reduction action plans. The activities included:<br />

managing rice bank, village fund, training on preparation<br />

<strong>and</strong> application of organic fertilizers, implementing <strong>and</strong><br />

promoting environment friendly <strong>and</strong> sustainable farming<br />

practices, organizing weaving group among women,<br />

<strong>and</strong> constructing boreholes <strong>and</strong> wells. Meanwhile,<br />

CONCERN’s staff provided technical inputs to district<br />

teams in <strong>the</strong> implementation of <strong>disaster</strong> <strong>risk</strong> reduction<br />

plans in <strong>the</strong> villages.<br />

Two district level Community-Based Disaster Risk<br />

Management (CBDRM) workshops were held using <strong>the</strong><br />

CBDRM training module prepared in phases 1 <strong>and</strong> 2.<br />

An orientation-workshop on Participatory Community<br />

Development was also conducted in each province.<br />

Study tours to rural development projects were conducted<br />

to better underst<strong>and</strong> practical application of <strong>risk</strong> reduction<br />

measures. International <strong>and</strong> local study trips exposed<br />

participants to <strong>the</strong> experiences of o<strong>the</strong>r communities in<br />

reducing vulnerabilities to <strong>disaster</strong>s.
