In 1967, the Indonesian National Coordinating Body for Natural Disaster
Management (BAKORNAS PBP) was established. The structure
for disaster management was also institutionalized at the provincial
and district levels (SATKORLAKs). In 1990, the Presidential Decree
expanded the scope of BAKORNAS to include man-made disasters.
