The first street paved in Sandusky Avas Market Street, between Jackson
and Wayne, for Avhich the ordinance AVIIS passed June 6, 1892, and
the property Avas assessed oil December 3, 1894.
On January 27, 1911, J. O. Moss died. He became president of the
Sandusky, Mansfield & NeAvark Railroad in the early '70s, and in his
later years was president of the Moss National Bank. He died possessed
of a large fortune accumulated by his OAVH sagacity and AVIIS naturally
possessed of 1 lit* brightest mind that the author ever met during his
residence in Sandusky.
On .May 7. 1887, the Market House AVIIS opened on the Avest square,

In 1877 the signal service AVIIS established in Sandusky and had its
station on top of the West House, but Avas moved to its present location
April 1, 1888.

railroad to run from the Big Four Railroad, past the Baltimore & Ohio,

On October 2d the Register mentions that ^2,000 out of $10,000 required
had been raised.
On September 21, 1890. a man who AVIIS knoAvn as Spot Barker died
in Sandusky. lie AVIIS a democrat of the tierce and unterrifying kind.
When .Lincoln AA'as'elected in I860 he painted his house black and il
remained black for some years after his death because of his VOAV that
he Avould not paint it any other color until a democratic president AVIIS
elected, and he died before that restilt AA'as accomplished.
On May 7, 1885. the Sandusky ihiihva.Av'Khicli ran from the West
House out to the Lake Shore Depot by the Avay of Hayes Avenue, was
bought by J. (). Moss. Its superintendent AVas L. HL Alcott. who built
it. and this AMIS the first street railroad in SandnskyS
On April 29, 1890, a company to run a street railroad to the Soldiers*
Home AA'as organized and Avas sold on May 23 to C. E. Cook of Chicago.
C W. Font and Christy Brothers of Cleveland.
On August 8, 1890. the Register mentions that there are four street
railroads in Sandusky. On September 7, 1890.-the street railway was
bought to make an electric-line. J. O. Moss was its president, C II. Moss
its vice president. Clark Rude its manager, and its directors were J. O.
Moss. A. .1. Stoll, James Fly-fin and George II. DeWitt.
On January 2. 1892. the electric line Avas built from the Soldiers'
Home to the cemetery. On May 24. 1893. the first ear rah from Sandusky

On January 23. 1897, Clark Rude AVIIS made recciA'«*r of the Sandusky
Street,Raihvay Company, which Avas'soln on -July 9. 1898. ton syndicate
