node. An endpoint in a link, or a junction common to<br />

two or more links in a network. A deprecated term for<br />

server group.<br />

node ID. Deprecated term for server group.<br />

node ID table. Deprecated term for server group table.<br />

not-after time. The time after which <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> is<br />

not to process a request.<br />

not-before time. The time before which <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong><br />

is not to process a request.<br />

numeric literal. A numeric character or string of<br />

numeric characters whose value is implicit in the characters<br />

themselves; for example, 777 is the literal as well<br />

as the value of the number 777.<br />

octal. Pertaining to a selection, choice, or condition<br />

that has eight possible different values or states.<br />

OEM. Original equipment manufacturer.<br />

logical unit that is owned by another domain and is referenced<br />

by a symbolic name, which can be qualified by<br />

panel. A predefined image displayed on a terminal<br />

panel flow. The way in which panels are chained<br />

together so that a user can move from one to another.<br />

panel layout. The way in which the text and the input<br />

fields on a panel are arranged.<br />

partitioned data set. A data set in direct access<br />

storage that is divided into partitions, called members,<br />

PCF. Programmed Cryptographic Facility.<br />

PDS. Partitioned data set.<br />

path information unit. In SNA, a message unit consisting<br />

of a transmission header (TH) alone, or a TH followed<br />

by a basic information unit (BIU) or a BIU<br />

segment.<br />

phase. The smallest unit of executable code that can<br />

be loaded into virtual storage.<br />

ping. The use of the ping command to send an echo<br />

request to a network host or gateway.<br />

port. With <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong>, the communication end point<br />

in TCP/IP. A port is identified by a port number.<br />

port number. In TCP/IP, a 16-bit number used to<br />

communicate between TCP/IP and a higher-level protocol<br />

or application.<br />

post-conversation user exit. A user exit that passes<br />

control to a routine at the system at which the filetransfer<br />

request originated. This routine is to run just<br />

after the servers terminate their conversation.<br />

post-transfer user exit. A user exit that passes<br />

control to a routine that is to run just after a server<br />

closes a file that has been transferred.<br />

pre-queuing user exit. A user exit that passes control<br />

to a routine that is to run just after a request is submitted<br />

to <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> and just before <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong><br />

adds the request to the queue.<br />

pre-transfer user exit. A user exit that passes control<br />

to a routine that is to run just before a server opens a<br />

file that is to be transferred.<br />

preparation user exit. Deprecated term for pretransfer<br />

user exit.<br />

process (a request). To obtain and try to carry out (a<br />

request).<br />

program temporary fix. A temporary solution to<br />

bypass of a problem diagnosed by <strong>IBM</strong> as resulting<br />

from a defect in a current unaltered release of a<br />

program.<br />

PTF. Program temporary fix.<br />

PUBX. Physical Unit Control Block Extension.<br />

QDA. Query data area.<br />

QRA. Query response area.
