equest password. A character string, assigned by a<br />

user to a request, that prevents users sharing that<br />

user’s originator ID from deleting or modifying that<br />

user’s waiting and active requests. If a user specifies a<br />

request password for a request, another user with the<br />

same originator ID must specify either the request password<br />

or the master password to be able to delete or<br />

modify the request while it is waiting, or to delete the<br />

request while it is active.<br />

request priority. A number, assigned by a user to<br />

each request, that determines the order in which a<br />

server is to process it. When a server is ready to<br />

process a request and several requests are eligible, the<br />

server processes the request with the highest priority<br />

first.<br />

request queue. In <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> for <strong>MVS</strong>, VSE, or<br />

VM, the file in which <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> stores requests that<br />

have been submitted for processing.<br />

request queue directory. A directory of the contents<br />

of the request queue.<br />

request unit. A message unit that contains control<br />

information, end-user data, or both.<br />

request-queue user exit. Deprecated term for prequeuing<br />

user exit.<br />

requesting system. The system where the filetransfer<br />

request has been initiated.<br />

resident session partner. An <strong>FTP</strong> V2 <strong>MVS</strong> or <strong>FTP</strong><br />

V2 VSE server that runs continuously and can perform<br />

an indefinite number of file transfers, however, these file<br />

transfers must all be initiated by servers at remote<br />

systems.<br />

responding system. The system responding to a filetransfer<br />

request.<br />

return code. A value issued by a program that<br />

describes the outcome of an operation performed by<br />

that program.<br />

root. In the AIX operating system, the user name for<br />

the system user with the most authority.<br />

RRDS. Relative record data set.<br />

RTM. Recovery Termination Manager.<br />

RU. Request unit.<br />

RXB. Request control block extension.<br />

SAF. System authorization facility.<br />

SAM. Sequential access method.<br />

saved request. A request that has been created with<br />

the <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> panels and that has then been saved<br />

in an ISPF table data set.<br />

scheduling a request. Determining which request is<br />

to be obtained, obtaining it, and passing it to a server.<br />

scroll amount. The amount that the list on a panel is<br />

scrolled up or down when you enter the UP or DOWN<br />

command.<br />

SDA. Server data area.<br />

SDMU. Source description message unit.<br />

SDWA. System Diagnostic Work Area.<br />

select members. To choose those members of a PDS<br />

that are to be transferred. Contrast with exclude<br />

members.<br />

sending data set. A data set, a copy of which is to be<br />

transferred using <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong>. Contrast with receiving<br />

data set.<br />

sending file. A file of which a copy is to be transferred<br />

using <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong>. Contrast with receiving file.<br />

sending system. The <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> system stores the<br />

file that will be transferred to the receiving system.<br />

sequential access method. See basic sequential<br />

access method.<br />

server. (1) A <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> component that establishes<br />

or accepts conversations and that transfers files. (2)<br />

With <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> for Workstations, a <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong><br />

Server program that serves as a gateway for one or<br />

more <strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> Client programs.<br />

server class. A number or letter, assigned by a user<br />

to a request, that specifies which servers can process<br />

that request.<br />

server data area. The area of ECSA into which<br />

<strong>NetView</strong> <strong>FTP</strong> places information about a server or<br />

servers.<br />

server group. A group of servers (logical units).<br />

server group table. A data set that specifies which<br />

servers make up each server group, and that contains<br />

information about each server.<br />

server modification area. An area of storage that<br />

contains the modifications to a server’s session parameters.
