Archive: documents concerning political, economic, religious, military and cultural institutions
and organizations from Catalonia and Spain from 1850 to the end of the Civil War, the most
important being those concerning the Spanish Second republic, the Spanish Civil War as
well as the anarchist Swedish trade union SAC (Sverige Arbetere Centralorganisation). these
series contain documents written in exile, including those of political and cultural institutions
and Catalan and Spanish trade unions in exile; records of the personal dossiers belong to public
figures linked by their militancy, political relevance or profession to the history of Catalonia
and Spain during the 20 th century. it also contains photocopied materials from the KGB
Archive in moscow, recording the role played by the Soviet union in the Spanish Civil War and,
in particular, the persecution and trials of the Workers’ marxist unified Party (Poum) militants,
as well as a number of photocopied documents from the national Confederation of labor
and the General Worker’s union (uGt) from 1936–1938, and documents on the role of these
unions in the industrial collectivization implemented in Catalonia during the Civil War.
Periodicals collection: spanning from the period of the end of the 19 th century to the
present time, especially the period of the Spanish Civil War, the Second Spanish republic,
and the Spanish republican exile in general and Catalan exile in particular. there is also a
collection of political and trade union underground press documents during Franco’s era and
the transition, as well as flyers, leaflets and other publications by neighbourhood associations,
political parties and trade unions after their legalization.
Special collections: audio archives, ranging from Falange or republican songs to speeches
by politicians; posters, mainly dating from the Second Spanish republic and the Civil War,
and others that address politics, economics, in addition to social and cultural life in Catalonia
and Spain. there are also collections of stamps, including those issued by the association
“Friends of the Soviet union”; of banknotes; of pennants from different associations; of stickers
referring to various events from Franco’s era to the present day; and of other propaganda items.
