Holdings: collections from both sides in the Civil War, going from military units (the so-called
People’s Army and national Army, Field Dressing Stations); Government institutions until the
end of the war (Presidency of the republic, Central Administration, Basque Government,
Generality of Catalonia, as well as the national Defense ministry), to national militia (Falange
and requetés), and the Blue Division and other military units. the “other records” section
holds documentation concerning Franco’s military office. the Archive also holds private
collections from different participants in the war.
Special collections: the Arturo roque meruvia (aka Kémer) poster collection from 1936 to
1939, José Demaría Campúa’s photo collection, a collection of items related to the Blue Division,
a collection of national Army units coats of arms during the Civil War, as well as a collection
of military units’ administrative stamps
Access: open to anyone. the 2 nd Section of the General Staff documentation is classified

Fondos: además de diversa documentación sobre reclutamiento de soldados, expedientes
de tropa y prisiones militares a lo largo de los siglos XViii, XiX y XX, conserva fondos sobre
los prisioneros extranjeros en el campo de concentración de miranda de Ebro, batallones
disciplinarios de soldados tras la Guerra Civil y conmutaciones de penas. asimismo, guarda
expedientes sobre búsqueda de personas muertas o desaparecidas durante la contienda,
antecedentes de los combatientes de ambos bandos y solicitudes de medallas y recompensas
de todo tipo, así como la repatriación de brigadistas internacionales. también existen
listados de prisioneros de guerra internados en hospitales, campos de concentración y
batallones de trabajadores.

and military prisons throughout the 18 th , 19 th and 20 th centuries, the Archive has collections on
foreign prisoners in the miranda de Ebro concentration camp, disciplinary battalions of
soldiers after the Civil War, and the commutation of penalties. it also has records about the
search for dead or missing people during the war, combatants’ records from both sides of
the war, requests for medals and rewards of all kind, and the repatriation of international
volunteers. there are also lists of prisoners of war in hospitals, concentration camps and
work battalions.
