In 1911, she parted onher maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, which was to becomeher regular line, under the command of Edward Smith, later the captain ofthe Titanic. It was the largest and most luxurious passenger liner of the dayuntil her sister ship RMS Titanic entered into service, and this title was to beshared. This article relates its unhappy yet heroic history. Paradoxically,both of her sister ships, although shorter-lived, achieved far wider fame.This irreplaceable series of ships came to be known as the Olympic series.El 16 de diciembre de 1908 se puso en Belfast la quilla del“R.M.S. Olympic” (1911-1935), que definitivamente fue el primerode tres barcos cuasi gemelos: el “R.M.S. Titanic” y el“R.M.S. Britannic”, posteriormente “H.M.H.S. Britannic”. En 1911partió en su viaje inaugural de Southampton a New York, que seríasu línea habitual, bajo el mando del capitán Edgard Smith,que posteriormente lo sería del “Titanic”.
