Abril 2011, Arg<strong>en</strong>tina 35<strong>en</strong>cuestados, ninguno declaró usar moxidectina, la cualsegún estudios previos demuestra ser mucho más amigablecon el medio ambi<strong>en</strong>te (Doherty et al, 1994; Suárezet al., 2003).En cuanto a la forma de dosificación, los productoresusan <strong>en</strong> forma masiva (95.2%) la vía inyectable de fáciladministración, la cual involucra mayorm<strong>en</strong>te AVM, posiblem<strong>en</strong>tedebido a su amplio espectro, acción prolongada,inocuidad y además por los bajos costos que <strong>en</strong> losúltimos años han t<strong>en</strong>ido las formulaciones g<strong>en</strong>éricas.También los pres<strong>en</strong>tes resultados muestran a pesar desus formulaciones inyectables, el reducido empleo <strong>en</strong> losrodeos del ricob<strong>en</strong>dazole (8%) y del levamisol (3%). Encuanto a las otras formas de dosificación, los antihelmínticosorales (16.5%) son poco utilizados y aún m<strong>en</strong>os losintrarruminales (0.9%). Ningún productor aplica formulacionesa partir de derrame dorsal (pour on) a difer<strong>en</strong>ciade otros países como Nueva Zelanda donde es la formade aplicación de más utilización.En cuanto al régim<strong>en</strong> de tratami<strong>en</strong>tos, <strong>en</strong> la mayorparte (35%) de los rodeos se aplican 2 tratami<strong>en</strong>tos alaño (otoño y fines invierno o primavera), los cuales estánalejados de lograr un bu<strong>en</strong> control de los vermes, ya queuna eficaz reducción de las cargas parasitarias <strong>en</strong> los ternerosal inicio del otoño dep<strong>en</strong>derá del manejo forrajeroy de la contaminación de las pasturas (Suárez, 1994).G<strong>en</strong>eralm<strong>en</strong>te <strong>en</strong> los sistemas int<strong>en</strong>sivos hace falta másde un tratami<strong>en</strong>to durante el otoño. Por otro lado, el tratami<strong>en</strong>toal inicio de la primavera muchas veces noalcanza para prev<strong>en</strong>ir las pérdidas de peso por los nematodesy el desarrollo invernal de los terneros que no escomp<strong>en</strong>sable <strong>en</strong> el tiempo y conlleva un deterioro posterior<strong>en</strong> la conformación de las reses (Suárez, 1995). Enel s<strong>en</strong>tido inverso, un 17% de los productores (principalm<strong>en</strong>telos que pose<strong>en</strong> más ganado) desparasita suhaci<strong>en</strong>da 4 o más veces por año. Esta práctica de acuerdoal manejo de campo, tampoco siempre va <strong>en</strong> el s<strong>en</strong>tidode los patrones epidemiológicos y, <strong>en</strong> muchos casos,ese número de aplicaciones no sería necesario. El 18%de los productores (mayorm<strong>en</strong>te aquellos con mayornúmero de exist<strong>en</strong>cias) aplican un régim<strong>en</strong> de tratami<strong>en</strong>tosfijos, pero no todos pose<strong>en</strong> una estrategia racionalque plantee el control de acuerdo a los patrones epidemiológicos(Suárez, 1994) de los PGI <strong>en</strong> la región y asíprev<strong>en</strong>ir posibles pérdidas productivas.En cuanto a la participación del veterinario <strong>en</strong> el asesorami<strong>en</strong>toy el diagnóstico a pesar de que un porc<strong>en</strong>tajealto de productores respondió que consultaban al profesional,<strong>en</strong> los hechos sólo un 29% (<strong>en</strong> mayor proporciónproductores grandes: 41%) utilizaban sus servicios a travésdel hpg y aún <strong>en</strong> m<strong>en</strong>or medida (12%) a través deuna interv<strong>en</strong>ción <strong>en</strong> los rodeos mediante un monitoreodiagnóstico <strong>en</strong> base al hpg y tratando <strong>en</strong> base a resultados.Esto muestra cómo, a pesar de que los productoresle asignan una importancia alta a los PGI, el control delos mismos recae mayorm<strong>en</strong>te <strong>en</strong> la aplicación de fármacoscon poca participación profesional. Sin embargo, la<strong>en</strong>cuesta demuestra que los productores grandes y losinvernadores le otorgan más importancia a esta afección,planifican <strong>en</strong> mayor medida el control y utilizan más elapoyo veterinario. Probablem<strong>en</strong>te, <strong>en</strong> parte esto sepodría explicar por una m<strong>en</strong>or incid<strong>en</strong>cia <strong>en</strong> los costospor la escala productiva o por un mejor acceso a la informacióno cultura de este tipo de productores.CONCLUSIONESEl pres<strong>en</strong>te trabajo demuestra el peso económico delos PGI <strong>en</strong> la competitividad de los sistemas de laregión no sólo por los casos declarados y sus consecu<strong>en</strong>cias<strong>en</strong> la producción de carne, sino también por elgasto originado <strong>en</strong> el consumo de antihelmínticos yotras medidas t<strong>en</strong>di<strong>en</strong>tes al control.Por otro lado, se muestra el elevado uso de antihelmínticos,principalm<strong>en</strong>te avermectinas con el pot<strong>en</strong>cialriesgo de afectar la sust<strong>en</strong>tabilidad de los sistemas alacelerar, por un lado, la selección de poblaciones devermes resist<strong>en</strong>tes y de originar, por el otro, efectosnocivos <strong>en</strong> el ambi<strong>en</strong>te o posibilitar restricciones comercialespor residuos.Finalm<strong>en</strong>te, a pesar de la importancia que los productoresotorgan a los PGI, de la pres<strong>en</strong>te <strong>en</strong>cuesta no seextrae una participación importante del profesional <strong>en</strong> elcontrol de los PGI, y son escasas las estrategias de controlque toman <strong>en</strong> cu<strong>en</strong>ta los patrones epidemiológicosde la <strong>en</strong>fermedad, surgi<strong>en</strong>do como necesidad la ext<strong>en</strong>siónde cómo planificar y poner <strong>en</strong> práctica las metodologíasde control más adecuadas para cada sistema orodeo.
