Enveloped by a vast, imposing city wall, Osimo from atop a knoll dominates the Musone and Aspio valleys. The panorama from the Public Park on Via Saffi is breath-taking, to say the least. From here the traveller’s gaze loses itself in an infinity of Leopardian memories: extending from the Adriatic coast to the Apennines, from the Gran Sasso across the Monti Sibillini until arriving at San Marino. A city with a rich past which has seen various people groups alternate upon its territory: from the first Picenum settlements to the prosperous Roman colony of AUXIMUM, from the Goths to the age of the Medieval Communes, and to Osimo’s membership in the Papal State, to the Unification of Italy.
