Dr. Pravetz is an interesting and remarkable
man……..
It has taken one Sunday morning of emergency bodily repairs to
develop a respectful esteem of this highly intellectual yet down to
earth individual who in some way, seems to be out of place in
North Western Namaqualand. He was involved in multiple
academic disciplines that most of us would hardly have mastered
if we focused on only one of them for our entire lives, and
studied, lectured, published, practiced medicine, did research
and presented papers in, amongst others, South Africa,
Philadelphia, Delaware, New York, Pakistan and Kentucky. His
repertoire includes phrases that will make any little boy
stand in awe. The opening paragraph of his CV reads as follows:
"The following pages constitute a summary and general overview
of my achievements in three interrelated fields: Sociology,
Medicine and Law. From 2001 until 2005, my efforts, energy and
time were concentrated into full time study towards the degree of
Bachelor of Legal Letters, culminating with the distinction of being
honored as top law student at the University of South Africa at
the 2006 Commencement Ceremony held in Pretoria, South
Africa. At this ceremony, I received a lifetime honor to have my
academic hood draped by Senior Advocate Henry Lever of the
Northwest Province, who was the Professor of Sociology at the
University of the Witwatersrand during my tenure in that
department." - Dr. Pravetz. His studies in Law and Medicine
followed on his focus in the field of Sociology. "The field of
Sociology has many aspects, including Medical Sociology. My
research leanings in this field eventually led to my pursuing
formal studies in Medicine. Initially, my general interests are in
the field of General Medicine, but I have initiated speciality
studies in Anesthesiology in South Africa, and now lie in issues
surrounding the management and development of HIV / AIDS
treatment in South Africa." - Dr. Pravetz.
He'll stitch you together, and make you feel better by saying:
You'll be o'k, but I think your modeling career is over!
He reached the rank of Lt. Colonel select in the United
States Army Reserve, Medical Corps.
He was Brigade Psychiatrist for Operation Desert Sands at
Fort Bliss, Texas.
He specialized in Combat Stress Support and the
Psychological Aspects of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical
Warfare.
He was Acting Chief of Professional Services at the 405th
Combat Support Hospital.
He has undergone Post Doctoral Training in Forensic
Psychiatry in Philadelphia.
Most recently he qualified as Diving Medical Officer at the
University of Stellenbosch, February 2010.
The only man who never makes a mistake is
the man who never does anything.
~Theodore Roosevelt
Dr. Pravetz is not only a Medical Practioner. His achievements cover three
interrelated fields: Sociology, Medicine and Law.
"My initial academic concentration was in Sociology, for both undergraduate
22
and graduate studies. With this background, I started a full time teaching career
at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. I replaced
Professor Frederick Van Zyl Slabbert who had just been elected Member of
Parliament for the Progressive Reform Party." - Dr. Pravetz.
Lampranthus (vygie, sandvygie, rankvygie) –Pof. R. Verhoeven
Familie Mesembryanthemaceae (“ice plant”, mesems, vygie)
Subfamilie Ruschioideae , Groep Lampranthus
ongeveer 220 spesies.
spesie in Australië. In Namakwaland kom ongeveer twaalf spesies voor.
Die meeste soorte staan in die volksmond as vygies bekend. Dikwels
Lampranthus
arbuthnotiae is as rankvygie, Lampranthus lunatus as vleisbos,
Lampranthus ornatus as rooivygie en Lampranthus suavissimus as
vygiebos of langbeen-t‟nouroebos bekend.
Die plante is platgroeiend tot regop struike. Die stingels is glad en soms
vorm daar wortels by die knope. Blare is kruisgewys teenoorstaande
Blare is
50 mm lank. Blomme is terminaal of okselstandig (“axillary”), enkel of in „n
digasium (byskerm). Blomme 7 – 70 mm in deursnee. Blomme maak in
middag oop en sluit laat namiddag. Blomme van sommige spesies het „n
geur soos ryp aarbeie. Kelkblare vyf, kroonblare baie en wit, geel, oranje,
rooi of pers van kleur. Staminodia afwesig of teenwoordig. Nektarkliere in
Sade is D- of
klein blomme moet in ander genera geplaas word.
oorgeplaas is.Lampranthus word algemeen aangeplant, veral in rotstuine.
Kan maklik van stegies gegroei word.
