Hus, leiligheter og barnehager 089/versjon 2
Høringssammenstilling, oppdatert 10. august 2010
building surfaces will be bound quickly to particles and soluble complexes in the
water run off system. Thus, it will be transformed into forms which have limited
availability for organisms to take up.
- Recent monitoring data from Swedish and Finnish surface waters, and the Baltic,
showed that no risks from general copper uses are expected for the aquatic
environment. Risk ratios above 1 are only detected for very exceptional and
localised monitoring samples (0 to 4 % of the total). These data also do not
indicate the need for general risk reduction measures such as restrictions on
copper roofs and claddings.
- Copper concentrations in sewage sludge are below limit values in the Nordic
countries. Agricultural fields suffer more from deficiency of copper than excess. It
is common practice to introduce copper fertilizers onto Nordic fields, with copper
containing sewage sludge often used in place of custom fertilizers.
Based on the above strong, peer reviewed and authority measurements, ECI believes that
no limitations are required for the use of copper in roofs and claddings. (kommentar: Not
sure what the right words are here, but if a Nordic Swan eco-label is good, copper
products should actually get one. Pia, pls complete this section.)
Comments from Nordic Ecolabelling
Thank you for your comments and information on copper in the Nordic environment. The
restriction on copper is based on total assessment for the metal. The background
document will be updated to reflect this mote clearly.
