• Appendix 9 Building materials containing adverse chemical substances
Mineral wool: This section is biased in that it provides an appreciation of the product,
which is not done in the sections covering other insulation products. Moreover, the
statement that mineral wool “is popular due to its insulating ability” is wrong. As the
following graph shows, when using mineral wool one needs a much higher thickness to
achieve the same insulation value as compared to polyurethane.
Plastic foam products: It is incorrect to state that PUR smoulders. All tests show that this
is never the case. Furthermore, the Background report again refers to brominated flame
retardants, but the Ecolabel bans all halogenated flame retardants. This is not correct.
