It is incorrect to state that PUR smoulders. All tests show that this is never the case.<br />

Furthermore, the Background report again refers to brominated flame retardants, but the<br />

Ecolabel bans all halogenated flame retardants. This is not correct.<br />

Comments from Nordic Eccolabelling<br />

In Appendix 9 we are pointing out environmental issues for the different insulation<br />

materials, and in this respect some materials will be more beneficial than others. We will<br />

delete the sentence ”It is popular due to its insulating ability.” because this is true not<br />

only for mineral wool. We appreciate the graph from BING, comparing the different<br />

material thicknesses from an insulating point of view. This does however not change the<br />

impact these materials have on the environment. According to BING there are tests<br />

showing that PUR does not smoulder. We would appreciate to see documentation of this.<br />

In the background report both brominated and halogenated flame retardants are referred<br />

to.<br />
