Relations between theater and drama
have been subject of change over
time. Ranging from Aristotle to the
establishing of the theatre director as
a profession at the end of 19th century,
the theater operates in a logocentric
system when the spoken word is the
key element in the performance and
visual means of expression only serve
as a background of the text. In the
20th century the director becomes the
decisive in the dramatic theater and
the meaning of the text in the show
significantly reduces. Modern postdramatic
theater replaces plays with
the text of performance, which has
become just one of the performances
of the components alongside gestures,
music, visual, etc. elements.
