29. Sapattā, Channā, and Upālī, excellent Revatā, <strong>the</strong>se were <strong>the</strong> highest among<br />

<strong>the</strong> Vinaya-studying Bhikkhunīs, <strong>the</strong> daughters <strong>of</strong> Somanadeva, –<br />

30. Mālā Khemā ca Tissā ca dhammakathikamuttamā<br />

vinayaṁ tāva vācayiṁsu paṭhamaṁ apagate bhaye. 606 |<br />

30. Mālā and Khemā and Tissā, <strong>the</strong> highest among <strong>the</strong> preachers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Dhamma, <strong>the</strong>se taught <strong>the</strong> Vinaya first after <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> Abhaya (or: when <strong>the</strong><br />

danger had disappeared?).<br />

31. Sīvalā ca Mahāruhā saddhammavaṁsakovidā<br />

pasādikā Jambudīpā sāsanena bahū janā 607 |<br />

32. vīsatibhikkhunīsahassehi saha Jambudīpāgatā<br />

yācitā naradevena Abhayena yasassinā. |<br />

31-32. Sīvalā and Mahāruhā who well understood <strong>the</strong> true Religion and (its)<br />

history, and had converted to <strong>the</strong> Faith many people in Jambudīpa, came hi<strong>the</strong>r<br />

from Jambudīpa toge<strong>the</strong>r with twenty thousand Bhikkhunīs, invited by<br />

illustrious king Abhaya.<br />

33. vinayaṁ vācayiṁsu piṭakaṁ Anurādhapuravhaye<br />

nikāye pañca vācesuṁ satta c’ eva pakaraṇe. |<br />

33. They taught <strong>the</strong> Vinayapiṭaka in Anurādhapura; <strong>the</strong>y (also) taught <strong>the</strong> five<br />

Collections (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Suttapiṭaka) and <strong>the</strong> seven Treatises (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Abhidhamma).<br />

34. sa-Sammuddanavā devī Sīvalā rājadhītaro<br />

visāradā Nāgapālī Nāgamittā ca paṇḍitā 608 |<br />
