learning, which upgrade sustainable development goals with
critical thinking, encouragement to seek solutions and individual’s
social engagement. At SIC the opportunity to implement
global learning approach and emphasis of importance of wider
social engagement were recognised in international EcoT project
(Ecotourism — the future is now, take responsibility) that is
being carried out within frames of Erasmus+ programme.
Methods: Qualitative research approach was used. Key documents
from the field of global learning and the project itself
were analysed. We tried to establish coherence and document
compliance. By using half structured interview we sought to determine
effects wider social engagement has had on students
since the beginning of the project.
Results: Study has shown coherence and document compliance
and thus adequacy of incorporation of global learning principles
into activities of international project. The interview has
shown we are successful in following educational principles of
sustainable development. Moreover, expected effects of project
activities have already been recognized by students.
Discussion: By applying global learning principles on specific
global issues students develop competences such as problem
solving, tolerance, ability for a dialogue and problem based
approach, empathy, acceptance of diversity, development of
critical thinking and individual’s own social engagement. Students
are able to assess their actions and way of life from the
perspective of global problems through project activities. In
such a way students are able to form their values and change
their everyday activities during learning process. By doing so
they are becoming active participants in care for sustainable
development.
