času, saj pobratenost ni le »prah zgodovine«, ampak<br />
je izziv za izobraževanje tudi v prihodnje.<br />

Abstract<br />
School twinning is of fundamental importance in terms of student<br />
exchanges for their overall development within the scope<br />
of the European Union. The inclusion of pupils in exchanges at<br />
the level of twinning has been widespread at elementary schools<br />
in the past, yet today it remains a challenge for only a few<br />
schools. By all means, it represents an opportunity for young<br />
person’s personal development to take on an active European<br />
citizenship role.<br />
Being a culturally aware EU citizen means spreading European<br />
awareness in various fields: schools and culture, establishing social<br />
contacts and intergenerational relationships, in strengthening<br />
language abilities, media pluralism and understanding<br />
economic progress.<br />
How to involve young people in an active role in exchanges of<br />
twinning schools is a challenge for each project coordinator. It<br />
is necessary to strengthen mutual and linguistic tolerance in all<br />
dimensions of intercultural dialogue, raising awareness of European<br />
values of freedom, freedom of speech and democracy.<br />
A teacher has a difficult motivational task when planning effect<br />
on exchange pupils: how and with which methods to motivate<br />
pupils, place them at the centre of attention and offer them<br />
an active and responsible role in terms of change in the evolving<br />
Europe. By overcoming language barriers and networking<br />
of pupils from different backgrounds, modern ICT is entering<br />
forefront, which enables development of constructive debates<br />
that achieve a change of philosophical thinking based on critical<br />
thinking. School twinning has development potential with<br />
