an exhibition to compare the before / after condition of
the actual places in the community to stimulate people’s
realization of the physical changes of the area including
how the areas have been used. 4) Raising issues concerning
people’s awareness in terms of the values,
opinions, and proposed development approaches though
interviews, images and video footage. 5) Creating the
food map to promote local food culture. 6) Organizing
the exhibition of old photography including a platform
where opinions and ideas were encouraged and exchanged
between locals, experts, community representatives,
schools and outsiders from different communities to
find a potential rehabilitation and development approach.
ASA-CAN Workshop: Living with Khlong at Lak Ha
Floating Market Community brought about a final result
that may not be a fully materialized cultural mapping,
but it is considered an attempt to create a platform where
the locals are able to collectively be a part of the making
of the contemporary history of their locality. The project
highlights the collection of individual memories and
collective identification of the community’s value. Once
small pieces of oral history are put together, what they
will eventually lead to is the making of the community’s
complete history that is still both relevant and truly
derived from the locals’ way of life. By encouraging
collaboration and unification between community
members, the project also brings together the public
sector, civil society, locals, temples and schools as every
involved party becomes aware of the importance of
local resources. For the participants, what they have
learned along the way is the actual practice of how
surveys, interviews and collaboration with a community
can be done. The experience will open new facets and
approaches that will bring successful outcomes of their
work and contributions. Ultimately, what this workshop
has to offer can be further developed and ramified into
actual rehabilitation tools that the Lak Ha Floating
Market needs to attain tangible and truly sustainable
development.
