The DLR facility in Lampoldshausen carries
out all research and testing of rocket test
beds in its capacity as the Institute of Space
Propulsion. The Institute focuses mainly on:
• developing advanced technology for future
space transport systems concentrating on
the core components chemical rocket propulsion
systems and their characteristic
processes. This work is important to the
Ariane space programme
• operation of large test beds on behalf of
the ESA and the European space industry
to carry out development, qualification and
acceptance tests of propulsion systems as
part of the Ariane space programme, especially
altitude simulation for upper stage
propulsion systems
• development of necessary measurement
and control technology as well as process
engineering
• planning, design and development of test
beds with unique altitude simulation testing
skills
