The Graduate School of Excellence advanced
Manufacturing Engineering (GSaME) uses
an innovative organisational and structural
model to instruct young engineers, computer
scientists and business administrators studying
for a doctorate in engineering. Unique in
Germany , it connects sophisticated, science
oriented and industry relevant research and
training with technology and management as
well as practical experience and theory. The
collaborative, interdisciplinary doctorate in advanced
manufacturing engineering is based
on the dual studies principal, includes independent
research in businesses and institutes
as well as scientific training and interdisciplinary
qualifications.
GSaME aims to develop new technical, methodical
and organisational solutions as well
as tools to develop engineering for manufacturing
systems. The school makes a significant
contribution to a new paradigm of industrial
production, developing future generations of
factories, their technologies, methodologies,
organisations and systems, adding a unique
Stuttgarter touch across its wide range of inter-
disciplinary activities.
GsaME’s partners define the research in
close cooperation with the professors, and
together they select the doctoral students.
This is clearly of great value to research at the
university – feedback and suggestions, which
topics will be critical in the future, and what
problems need to be solved.
