Astrium, an EADS subsidiary, specialises in
civil and military space transportation. Our
core business is split into three main areas:
“space transportation” for expendable launch
systems and space infrastructure, “satellites”
for satellites and ground segments as well as
“satellite-based services”.
The space specialist has five large sites
in Germany, three of which are in Baden-
Württemberg: Friedrichshafen, Backnang and
Lampoldshausen. Then there are the offices
in Bremen and Ottobrunn near Munich. Each
of these sites focuses on its own areas of
development and production, yet each is an
integral part of the group. Astrium employs
around 4,200 staff, mostly engineers.
Satellite propulsion systems are the focal
point at the Lampoldshausen site. Their precision
propulsion systems are market leaders.
Friedrichshafen is the German hub for scientific
and earth observation satellites. The
Astrium subsidiary Tesat is based in Backnang,
where they develop and manufacture
special systems and devices for telecommunication
via satellite.
