El centre històric, wie die Mallorquiner
es nennen, gilt als einer der besterhaltensten
historischen Stadtkerne Europas.
Weitgehend verkehrsfrei fi ndet man
hier christliche, jüdische und maurische
Einfl üsse. Palma wurde 123 v. Chr. von
den Römern gegründet. Im 13. Jahrhundert
fi el die Stadt unter die Herrschaft der
Aragonier, die die noch bis heute erhaltene
Kathedrale La Seu sowie das Castell
de Bellver errichteten.
► THE OLD CITY
The old part of town – what the
Mallorcans call el centre històric – is one
of the best-preserved historic city
centres in Europe. Much of the maze of
narrow lanes is free of traffi c and little
stairs lead from one street to the next.
The architecture is characterised by
Jewish, Arab and Christian infl uences.
Founded in 123 BC by the Romans, the
city was conquered by James I of Aragon
in 1229, when the cathedral was built.
