BERLIN IN FASHION
This January the German capital hosts Fashion Week when trade events
like Premium take place. But it’s not just big shows – Berlin is also the
new hip place to be for hot young designers
The fashion business in
Berlin is booming. At
weekends, the shops on
Mulackstraße in Berlin’s Mitte
district are packed with tourists
and locals checking out the city’s
style and taking the odd item
home with them. Clothes
designed in Berlin are as diverse
as it gets, ranging from elegant

evening dresses to bright, neoncoloured
shirts. No wonder
young designers from all over
the world are coming to the city
to start up their business.
These visionaries are
choosing the German capital
rather than the established
centres of fashion and they know
exactly why. Annelie Augustin
and Odély Teboul are two of the
bright young things currently
being feted on the Berlin fashion
scene. The elaborate black
leather and silk pieces they
design for their label, Augustin
Teboul, have had photo spreads
devoted to them in high-end
magazines and earned them
celebrity fans like singer Beth

Ditto. The two young designers
decided against starting their
business in a traditional fashion
capital (in this case, Paris, which
is where they met) and in 2010, in
search of new inspiration, they
came to Berlin to open their
studio. They make magnifi cent
