gefasste Trinkwasser ins Tal schiesst. Alle Anlagen
sind „naturemade“ zertifiziert. Grosse Photovoltaikanlagen
befinden sich auf den Dächern der Interstaatlichen
Hochschule für Technik und des Altersheims. Eine dritte
Grossanlage schwebt auf Stützen über dem Ausgleichsbecken
des EWB auf 1 000 Metern ü. M. und eine
Buchs in the St.Gallen Rhine valley is, with nearly
12,000 inhabitants, the biggest community in the
Werdenberg region and one of the biggest municipal
centres between Lake Constance and Chur.
The city considers the quality of its living space to be
particularly important. The sustainable treatment of its
environment is rooted deep in its mission, something
that is shown by a large number of exemplary projects that
have earned Buchs the quality label of ”Energy City“.
With its own hydro and electricity company (EWB), the
city promotes the sale of natural electricity. It is generated
from solar energy and turbines, through which the
drinking water from the mountain springs flow into the
valley. All the facilities have the ”naturemade“ certification.
Large photovoltaic plants can be found on the
roofs of the Interstate University of Technology and
the old people‘s home. A third major facility floats on
pillars over the equalising reservoir of the EWB, 1,000
above sea level, and a plant with more than 700 kW
