Der argentinische Autor, Theater- und Filmregisseur Mariano Pensotti, der
für seine Ruhrtriennale-Produktion Diamante nicht nur an der Ruhr, sondern
auch in Wien und Berlin gefeiert wurde, hat zwei Filme über Theaterzuschauer*innen
gedreht. Beide Filme über ein fiktionales Publikum sind
Portraits der Städte Athen und Buenos Aires sowie ihrer Bewohner*innen.
Das Publikum betritt ein Theater. Sie nehmen ihre Plätze ein. In dem Film
The Audience geht es in dem Theaterstück, das wir als Film-Zuschauer*innen
nicht sehen, um eine Frau, die im zweiten Weltkrieg im Widerstand
aktiv war. In El Público sehen wir, wie Darsteller*innen das Programmheft
über ein Drama lesen, das den argentinischen Staatsbankrott 2001 thematisiert.
Dann Schnitt, Ende der Aufführung, das Publikum verlässt den Saal.
Die Kamera folgt elf Personen und in einzelnen Film-Episoden kommt zur
Sprache, wie die jeweiligen Zuschauer*innen den Theaterabend erlebt haben.
Ihre Erzählungen über das komplexe Stück sind zugleich Geschichten
über Erfahrungen der gesellschaftlichen Situation in den jeweiligen
Städten.
Der Film El Público wurde im Januar 2020 beim Theaterfestival FIBA in
Buenos Aires präsentiert und beide Filme werden in Deutschland bei der
Ruhrtriennale 2020 erstmals gezeigt.
The Argentinian writer, theatre and film director Mariano Pensotti, whose
Ruhrtriennale production Diamante was highly acclaimed not only on the
Ruhr but also in Vienna and Berlin, has made two films about theatre audiences:
one in Athens and the other in Buenos Aires. Both films about a
fictional audience are portraits of the respective cities and their inhabitants.
The audience enters the theatre. They each take their seats. In the film
The Audience we don’t see the performance about a woman in resistance
during the second world war. In El Público we see an audience reading the
programme brochure about a play, whose subject is the Argentinian public
debt default in 2001. There is a cut to the end of the performance and the
audience leaves the auditorium. The camera follows eleven people and in a
series of individual filmed episodes we hear how each of them experienced
their evening in the theatre. What they have to say about the complex plays
they have seen are at the same time stories about their experience of society
in the particular cities.
The film El Público was first shown in January 2020 at the FIBA theatre
festival in Buenos Aires, both films have their German premiere at the Ruhrtriennale
2020.
