OBJECTIVES:<br />

The prime objective is:<br />

Improving the mood – happiness in opposition to sadness - <strong>of</strong> children<br />

with cancer resulting in better acceptance <strong>of</strong> the treatment.<br />

The specific objectives are:<br />

• Giving the children the opportunity to feel and express their emotions<br />

with music;<br />

• Helping the children to face the troubles caused by chemotherapy and<br />

radiotherapy;<br />

• Providing the children with relaxing moments and to set them free <strong>of</strong><br />

tensions;<br />

• Giving them the opportunity to share friendly contacts in delightful<br />

moments;<br />

• Using music as an element to make the hospitalization less<br />

threatening.<br />

Target Population: newborn to 15-year old children admitted in the<br />

Hospital S. Lucas <strong>of</strong> the Catholic University <strong>of</strong> RGS, Brazil.<br />

These children are attended either at the nursing room under Public<br />

Health Care Services or at other nursing rooms under private health care<br />

services.<br />

The covered areas are: the states <strong>of</strong> Rio Grande do Sul and Santa<br />

Catarina, Brazil.<br />

MATERIAL AND METHODS<br />

On Tuesday mornings, I have a meeting with the medical staff <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pediatrics Department and with the staff <strong>of</strong> the Children and Adolescents<br />

Human Rights Committee <strong>of</strong> which I am a member. Then, I get<br />
