of law, the school offers many opportunities
to engage in written
work. The wide variety of seminars
is designed to satisfy students' interests
in a particular field of law,
leading to the production of a
piece of written scholarship. Similarly,
students have the opportunity
to explore particular problems or
areas of the law not formally included
in the curriculum by doing
independent research and writing
under the close supervision of a
faculty member.
Thus, the curriculum of the
University of Maryland School of
Law—both required and elective—
reflects the four basic themes considered
by the faculty to comprise
the touchstones of the well-educated
lawyer: knowledge, professionalism,
perspective and communication.
