memory the series was established.<br />
Stuart Rome was a prominent<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the Baltimore legal<br />
community who gave generously <strong>of</strong><br />
himself to enhance health care and<br />
the arts, as well as the legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />
The Robert M. Goldman Visiting<br />
Scholar Program. The Goldman<br />
Program was established by the law<br />
firm Frank, Bernstein, Conaway<br />
and Goldman in honor <strong>of</strong> Mr.<br />
Goldman, class <strong>of</strong> 1941. It provides<br />
income that gives the law<br />
school, as well as the Baltimore<br />
legal community, access to new directions<br />
and thinking in the law<br />
and closely related disciplines, developed<br />
by the ablest thinkers in<br />
the United States.<br />
The <strong>Maryland</strong> Institute for<br />
Continuing Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
Education <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yers, Inc.<br />
The <strong>Maryland</strong> Institute for Continuing<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Law</strong>yers, Inc. (MICPEL) was<br />
formed in 1976 as a result <strong>of</strong> the<br />
cooperative effort <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Maryland</strong><br />
State Bar Association, the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Baltimore <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong>, the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Law</strong> and the local bar associations,<br />
each <strong>of</strong> which is represented on<br />
the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees. While<br />
MICPEL is an independent entity<br />
it was created to be the continuing<br />
legal education agent <strong>of</strong> its founding<br />
organizations<br />
The institute is located in the<br />
new <strong>Maryland</strong> Bar Center (adjacent<br />
to the law school). MICPEL<br />
schedules approximately 125 programs<br />
a year in various locations<br />
around the state and has a publication<br />
list <strong>of</strong> nearly 250 titles. Its<br />
programs range from three-hour<br />
mini courses to the annual Intensive<br />
Nine-Day Trial Advocacy Program<br />
which is held each spring at<br />
the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>. The director is Robert H.<br />
Dyer, Jr.<br />
<strong>Maryland</strong> Bar Center<br />
The <strong>Maryland</strong> Bar Center is a pioneering<br />
venture in American<br />
legal education, which has placed<br />
the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> at the center <strong>of</strong> legal education<br />
in the state. The newly renovated<br />
Poe <strong>School</strong> now houses the<br />
<strong>Maryland</strong> State Bar Association<br />
and The <strong>Maryland</strong> Institute for<br />
Continuing Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yers, Inc., along with over a<br />
dozen lawyers, all <strong>of</strong> whom have<br />
become part <strong>of</strong> the law school's<br />
program. The Bar Center's lawyer<br />
tenants work with the Clinical <strong>Law</strong><br />
Program and practice courses,<br />
teach in the classroom and perform<br />
in a variety <strong>of</strong> other roles that engage<br />
them in legal education and<br />
they provide students models <strong>of</strong> law<br />
practice.<br />
Office <strong>of</strong> State's Attorneys'<br />
Coordinator<br />
The Office <strong>of</strong> the State's Attorneys'<br />
Coordinator was created by<br />
the <strong>Maryland</strong> General Assembly,<br />
which also designated that it be located<br />
at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong><br />
<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> with its operational<br />
control vested in the State's<br />
Attorneys' Coordination Council.<br />
