asset validation — In intelligence use, the process used to determine the asset authenticity,<br />

reliability, utility, suitability, and degree of control the case officer or others have.<br />

asset visibility — Provides users with information on the location, movement, status, and<br />

identity of units, personnel, equipment, and supplies, which facilitates the capability to<br />

act upon that information to improve overall performance of the Department of<br />

assign — 1. To place units or personnel in an organization where such placement is<br />

relatively permanent, and/or where such organization controls and administers the units<br />

or personnel for the primary function, or greater portion of the functions, of the unit or<br />

personnel. 2. To detail individuals to specific duties or functions where such duties or<br />

assistance in kind — The provision of material and services for a logistic exchange of<br />

materials and services of equal value between the governments of eligible countries.<br />

assumption — A supposition on the current situation or a presupposition on the future<br />

course of events, either or both assumed to be true in the absence of positive proof,<br />

necessary to enable the commander in the process of planning to complete an estimate<br />

asymmetric — In military operations the application of dissimilar strategies, tactics,<br />

capabilities, and methods to circumvent or negate an opponent’s strengths while<br />
