composite warfare commander — An officer to whom the officer in tactical command of<br />

a naval task organization may delegate authority to conduct some or all of the offensive<br />

and defensive functions of the force. Also called CWC. (JP 3-<strong>02</strong>)<br />

compromise — The known or suspected exposure of clandestine personnel, installations, or<br />

other assets or of classified information or material, to an unauthorized person.<br />

compromised — A term applied to classified matter, knowledge of which has, in whole or<br />

in part, passed to an unauthorized person or persons, or which has been subject to risk<br />

of such passing. (JP 2-01.2)<br />

computer security — The protection resulting from all measures to deny unauthorized<br />

access and exploitation of friendly computer systems. Also called COMPUSEC. See<br />

also communications security. (JP 6-0)<br />

concept of fires — A verbal or graphic statement that clearly and concisely expresses how<br />

lethal and nonlethal fires will be synchronized and integrated to support the<br />

commander’s operational objectives. (JP 3-09)<br />

concept of intelligence operations — A verbal or graphic statement, in broad outline, of an<br />

intelligence directorate’s assumptions or intent in regard to intelligence support of an<br />

operation or series of operations. The concept of intelligence operations, which<br />

supports the commander’s concept of operations, is contained in the intelligence annex<br />

of operation plans. The concept of intelligence operations is designed to give an overall<br />

picture of intelligence support for joint operations. It is included primarily for<br />

additional clarity of purpose. See also concept of operations. (JP 2-0)<br />

concept of logistic support — A verbal or graphic statement, in a broad outline, of how a<br />

commander intends to support and integrate with a concept of operations in an<br />

operation or campaign. (JP 4-0)<br />

concept of operations — A verbal or graphic statement that clearly and concisely expresses<br />

what the joint force commander intends to accomplish and how it will be done using<br />

available resources. Also called CONOPS. (JP 5-0)<br />

concept plan — In the context of joint operation planning level 3 planning detail, an<br />

operation plan in an abbreviated format that may require considerable expansion or<br />

alteration to convert it into a complete operation plan or operation order. Also called<br />

CONPLAN. See also operation plan. (JP 5-0)<br />

condition — 1. Those variables of an operational environment or situation in which a unit,<br />

system, or individual is expected to operate and may affect performance. 2. A physical<br />

or behavioral state of a system that is required for the achievement of an objective. See<br />

also joint mission-essential tasks. (JP 3-0)<br />
