displaced person — A broad term used to refer to internally and externally displaced<br />

display — In military deception, a static portrayal of an activity, force, or equipment<br />

intended to deceive the adversary’s visual observation. (JP 3-13.4)<br />

dissemination and integration — In intelligence usage, the delivery of intelligence to users<br />

in a suitable form and the application of the intelligence to appropriate missions, tasks,<br />

distant retirement area — In amphibious operations, the sea area located to seaward of the<br />

landing area. This area is divided into a number of operating areas to which assault<br />

ships may retire and operate in the event of adverse weather or to prevent concentration<br />

distressed person — An individual who requires search and rescue assistance to remove he<br />

or she from life-threatening or isolating circumstances in a permissive environment.<br />

distribution — 1. The arrangement of troops for any purpose, such as a battle, march, or<br />

maneuver. 2. A planned pattern of projectiles about a point. 3. A planned spread of<br />

fire to cover a desired frontage or depth. 4. An official delivery of anything, such as<br />

orders or supplies. 5. The operational process of synchronizing all elements of the<br />

logistic system to deliver the “right things” to the “right place” at the “right time” to<br />

support the geographic combatant commander. 6. The process of assigning military<br />

personnel to activities, units, or billets. (JP 4-0)<br />

distribution manager — The executive agent for managing distribution with the combatant<br />

commander’s area of responsibility. See also area of responsibility; distribution.<br />

distribution pipeline — Continuum or channel through which the Department of Defense<br />

conducts distribution operations. The distribution pipeline represents the end-to-end<br />

flow of resources from supplier to consumer and, in some cases, back to the supplier in<br />

retrograde activities. See also distribution. (JP 4-09)<br />

distribution plan — A reporting system comprising reports, updates, and information<br />

systems feeds that articulate the requirements of the theater distribution system to the<br />

strategic and operational resources assigned responsibility for support to the theater. It<br />

portrays the interface of the physical, financial, information and communications<br />

networks for gaining visibility of the theater distribution system and communicates<br />

control activities necessary for optimizing capacity of the system. It depicts, and is<br />

continually updated to reflect changes in, infrastructure, support relationships, and<br />

customer locations to all elements of the distribution system (strategic operational, and<br />
