decision — In an estimate of the situation, a clear and concise statement of the line of action<br />

intended to be followed by the commander as the one most favorable to the successful<br />

accomplishment of the assigned mission. (JP 5-0)<br />

decision point — A point in space and time when the commander or staff anticipates<br />

making a key decision concerning a specific course of action. See also course of<br />

action; decision support template; target area of interest. (JP 5-0)<br />

decision support template — A combined intelligence and operations graphic based on the<br />

results of wargaming. The decision support template depicts decision points, timelines<br />

associated with movement of forces and the flow of the operation, and other key items<br />

of information required to execute a specific friendly course of action. See also course<br />

of action; decision point. (JP 2-01.3)<br />

decisive point — A geographic place, specific key event, critical factor, or function that,<br />

when acted upon, allows commanders to gain a marked advantage over an adversary or<br />

contribute materially to achieving success. See also center of gravity. (JP 5-0)<br />

deck status light — A three-colored light (red, amber, green) controlled from the primary<br />

flight control. Navy — The light displays the status of the ship to support flight<br />

operations. United States Coast Guard — The light displays clearance for a helicopter<br />

to conduct a given evolution. (JP 3-04)<br />

declassification — The determination that, in the interests of national security, classified<br />

information no longer requires any degree of protection against unauthorized<br />

disclosure, coupled with removal or cancellation of the classification designation.<br />

decompression — In personnel recovery, the process of normalizing psychological and<br />

behavioral reactions that recovered isolated personnel experienced or are currently<br />

experiencing as a result of their isolation and recovery. (JP 3-50)<br />

decontamination — The process of making any person, object, or area safe by absorbing,<br />

destroying, neutralizing, making harmless, or removing chemical or biological agents,<br />

or by removing radioactive material clinging to or around it. (JP 3-11)<br />

decoy — An imitation in any sense of a person, object, or phenomenon which is intended to<br />

deceive enemy surveillance devices or mislead enemy evaluation. Also called dummy.<br />

defended asset list —A listing of those assets from the critical asset list prioritized by the<br />

joint force commander to be defended with the resources available. Also called DAL.<br />
