cache — A source of subsistence and supplies, typically containing items such as food,<br />

water, medical items, and/or communications equipment, packaged to prevent damage<br />

from exposure and hidden in isolated locations by such methods as burial, concealment,<br />

and/or submersion, to support isolated personnel. See also evader; evasion; recovery;<br />

call sign — Any combination of characters or pronounceable words, which identifies a<br />

communication facility, a command, an authority, an activity, or a unit; used primarily<br />

for establishing and maintaining communications. Also called CS. (JP 3-50)<br />

campaign — A series of related major operations aimed at achieving strategic and<br />

campaign plan — A joint operation plan for a series of related major operations aimed at<br />

achieving strategic or operational objectives within a given time and space. See also<br />

campaign planning — The process whereby combatant commanders and subordinate joint<br />

force commanders translate national or theater strategy into operational concepts<br />

through the development of an operation plan for a campaign. See also campaign;<br />

canalize — To restrict operations to a narrow zone by use of existing or reinforcing<br />

obstacles or by fire or bombing. (JP 3-15)<br />

candidate target list — A list of objects or entities submitted by component commanders,<br />

appropriate agencies, or the joint force commander’s staff for further development and<br />

inclusion on the joint target list and/or restricted target list, or moved to the no-strike<br />

capstone publication — The top joint doctrine publication in the hierarchy of joint<br />

publications that links joint doctrine to national strategy and the contributions of other<br />

government departments and agencies, multinational partners, and reinforces policy for<br />

capstone requirements document — A document that contains performance-based<br />

requirements to facilitate development of individual operational requirements<br />
