Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff instruction — A replacement document for all<br />

types of correspondence containing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff policy and<br />

guidance that does not involve the employment of forces, which is of indefinite<br />

duration and is applicable to external agencies, or both the Joint Staff and external<br />

agencies. Also called CJCSI. See also Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff<br />

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff manual — A document containing detailed<br />

procedures for performing specific tasks that do not involve the employment of forces,<br />

which is of indefinite duration and is applicable to external agencies or both the Joint<br />

Staff and external agencies. Also called CJCSM. See also Chairman of the Joint<br />

chalk number — The number given to a complete load and to the transporting carrier.<br />

change detection — An image enhancement technique that compares two images of the<br />

same area from different time periods and eliminates identical picture elements in order<br />

to leave the signatures that have undergone change. (JP 2-03)<br />

channel airlift — Provides regularly scheduled airlift for movement of sustainment cargo,<br />

depending upon volume of workload, between designated aerial ports of embarkation<br />

and seaports of debarkation over validated contingency or distribution channel routes.<br />

chemical agent — A chemical substance which is intended for use in military operations to<br />

kill, seriously injure, or incapacitate mainly through its physiological effects. The term<br />

excludes riot control agents when used for law enforcement purposes, herbicides,<br />

chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear consequence management — Actions<br />

taken to plan, prepare, respond to, and recover from chemical, biological, radiological,<br />

and nuclear incidents. Also called CBRN CM. (JP 3-41)<br />

chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense — Measures taken to minimize or<br />

negate the vulnerabilities and/or effects of a chemical, biological, radiological, or<br />

nuclear incident. Also called CBRN defense. (JP 3-11)<br />

chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear environment — Conditions found in an<br />

area resulting from immediate or persisting effects of chemical, biological, radiological,<br />

or nuclear attacks or unintentional releases. Also called CBRN environment.<br />
