PRAJAPATHI AND BALADEVA<br />

In the portions of Rig Veda, which were written well after the<br />

com<strong>in</strong>g of St.Thomas we have been <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> the portion<br />

commonly known as the Purusha Suktha to a Purusha<br />

Prajapthaty, may be identified to some extent to the second<br />

Person <strong>in</strong> the Tr<strong>in</strong>ity. He is the Creator - one who is sla<strong>in</strong> before<br />

the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of the world. The later Upanishads develops this<br />

idea. However magnificent these presentations are later story<br />

tell<strong>in</strong>g had marred even these underly<strong>in</strong>g figures. The concept of<br />

Baladeva fits the character of Jesus but does not expla<strong>in</strong> the work<br />

of Jesus. Though these characters were presented to depict Jesus,<br />

the <strong>in</strong>ter-denom<strong>in</strong>ational quarrels have led to lot of mud throw<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on these characters as well. Beh<strong>in</strong>d the veil of mud and scum, we<br />

could still discern the Purusha.<br />

If Krishna is a far cry from the superlative person of Jesus, there is<br />

another person <strong>in</strong> the Rig Veda who fits the comparison most. As there<br />

are 73 books <strong>in</strong> the Holy Bible, there are 10 books <strong>in</strong> the Rig-Veda - Ten<br />

mandalams. First n<strong>in</strong>e mandalams refers to various gods and presents<br />

methods of worship as rituals. In the tenth mandalam, besides these<br />

gods, there is the mention of a Person. This is expanded <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Brahmanas and Upanishads associated with Rig Veda Samhita. Here we<br />

have a portrait of the first-born and only born son of the God. His name<br />

is ‘Prajapathy’. Prajapathy, the son of the God comes to this world at the<br />

appropriate time. After com<strong>in</strong>g to this world he travels around advis<strong>in</strong>g
