Alexander the great <strong>in</strong>vaded <strong>India</strong>. The <strong>in</strong>vasion did succeed to a certa<strong>in</strong><br />

extent. A Seleucidan k<strong>in</strong>gdom was established <strong>in</strong> a part of <strong>India</strong> that was<br />

conquered. Subsequently, several Greek k<strong>in</strong>gdoms came <strong>in</strong>to existence<br />

<strong>in</strong> the Punjab, Multan, and Afghan regions. One of the most famous<br />

Greek k<strong>in</strong>gs was Menander. Menander is known to be a scholar <strong>in</strong><br />

Buddhism. Greek and <strong>India</strong>n art fused and gave rise to a new art form<br />

called Gandara. It was the Greeks (philosophical form by Plato and the<br />

Pythagoreans) who first <strong>in</strong>troduced the idea of re<strong>in</strong>carnation to <strong>India</strong>. It<br />

does not appear <strong>in</strong> the earliest H<strong>in</strong>du scriptures (the Rig Veda) but was<br />

developed at a later period <strong>in</strong> the Upanishads under the Greek <strong>in</strong>fluence.<br />
