BHAVISHYA PURANA<br />

Bhavishya Purana – Consequential Old Stories – was written<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g the Christian Era <strong>in</strong> Sanskrit. Even though it is claimed<br />

that it is a prophecy by most proponents, it could not have been<br />

written Before Christian era. Pratisarga Parva, Chapters Four to<br />

Seven are of particular <strong>in</strong>terest. It repeats the Old Testament<br />

stories of Fall, Flood, and detailed chronology with the names<br />

<strong>in</strong>dianized with exact number of years each patriarch lived. The<br />

names, the lifetime and chronological order and the <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong> the<br />

biblical stories could not have come without a deep study of the<br />

Old Testament book of Genesis. A pla<strong>in</strong> read<strong>in</strong>g of the Purana<br />

side by side with the book of Genesis leaves no doubt that the<br />

Rishi who wrote this was a Scholar <strong>in</strong> Old Testament.<br />

The book also <strong>in</strong>troduces Jesus as the Son of God (Eshwara<br />

Putra) and as Easaw Maseeh (Jesus the Mesiah).<br />

Even though serious scholars do not consider Bhavishya Purana as<br />

authentic, <strong>in</strong> the recent times it appears that the exporters of <strong>H<strong>in</strong>duism</strong><br />

have projected this as authentic. The word Bhavi means future.<br />

Bhavishyam actually means “consequence of”. The whole history of<br />

mank<strong>in</strong>d here is expla<strong>in</strong>ed as a consequence of the fall of man and God’s<br />

plans of redemption. This is a text that has grown over a period of 2000<br />

years start<strong>in</strong>g from the 3rd or even the 4th century B.C. The suggested<br />

upper and lower limits of the period are 450 or 500 B.C. to 1850 A.D. In<br />

the course of this growth and evolution, later-day material was added to
