After the first two years the demography of the Albert Goldfield settled into
the general pattern which it would retain for the next forty or so years. At
the end of 1882 Milparinka was the major centre, closely pursued in this
claim by Tibooburra. Mount Browne was a struggling community, without
any basis for its existence apart from sporadic bursts of alluvial mining
activity. Albert, at the 'Reefs' was also a struggling community, and a
locality which was abandoned before the turn of the Century. For the
purposes of this research only incidental attention will be directed to events
after 1882 within communities other than Milparinka and Mount Browne, as
these, although no doubt on the periphery of happenings at Milparinka,
have little bearing upon the subject of my research.
