(Common Knapweed, Knapweed, Lesser Knapweed, Spanish Buttons)<br />

Description: An erect herb growing to 1m tall and spreading<br />

by creeping lateral roots.<br />

flowers: Reddish-purple flowers with forked outer petals.<br />

3-4 cm in diameter occurring singly at the end of branches<br />

from December to February.<br />

leaves: Grey/green to green, hairy and oblong shaped.<br />

Lower leaves can be toothed or smooth edged and up to<br />

25 cm long. Upper leaves are much smaller and clasp stem.<br />

stems: Erect up to 1 m. Ridged, hairy and rough to touch.<br />

Initially green but turning purple when mature.<br />

Note: Prohibits the germination and growth of desirable<br />

species and is not grazed by stock.<br />

similar Native species: Unlikely to be confused with native<br />

species.<br />
