Lagarosiphon<br />
Description: A branched fresh water herb that forms tangled<br />
mats under the water surface.<br />
flowers: Inconspicuous, purple, 3 mm across and growing<br />
on threads from the leaf axils. Appearing between Spring and<br />
early Summer.<br />
leaves: Stem clasping in tightly grouped spirals at the top<br />
and more loosely grouped at the base. Stiff, tapered,<br />
5-20 mm long and curving downwards at the tip.<br />
stems: Ascending, brittle and branched. Up to 5 m long.<br />
Note: Aggressive weed of reservoirs up to 7 m deep.<br />
similar Native species: Could be confused with Hydrilla<br />
(Hydrilla verticillata). Could also be confused with the<br />
introduced Elodea canadensis.<br />
