Parrot’s Feather<br />

Description: A bright green aquatic herb that forms vigorous<br />

mats of tangled stems.<br />

flowers: Solitary and rising on short stalks. Petals absent but<br />

stigma is prominent bearing fine hairs. Appears between June<br />

and September.<br />

leaves: Bright green and feathery in appearance. In tightly<br />

packed whorls at the top becoming further apart towards the<br />

base.<br />

stems: Slender, trailing, yellow/green, up to 5 m long and<br />

rooting from nodes at the base.<br />

Note: Readily spreads from stem fragments. Invasive and<br />

difficult to control.<br />

similar Native species: Could be confused with a number<br />

of native Myriophyllum species, such as Common Milfoil, M.<br />

papillosum.<br />
