Hardheads<br />

Description: Appearance of a spike-less thistle 40 -100 cm<br />

tall.<br />

flowers: Small, hard, thistle like heads, solitary at the end of<br />

branches. Purple, sometimes white, 2.5 cm diameter, appears<br />

between November and February.<br />

leaves: Lance shaped, larger and toothed at base and<br />

smaller with edges up the stem. Grey/green with a cover of<br />

fine woolly hairs.<br />

stems: Erect grey/green stems arise from the centre of<br />

rosettes and have a covering of fine hair. Branched towards<br />

the top.<br />

Note: Hardy, deep-rooted and long living. Can severely<br />

reduce crop yields.<br />

similar Native species: Unlikely to be confused with native<br />

species.<br />
