Regionally Prohibited Weed<br />

Serrated Tussock<br />

Description: Tussock grass up to 50 cm tall and 25 cm wide<br />

at base.<br />

flowers: Tiny, inconspicuous and found at the end of<br />

open branched panicles (flower heads) up to 35 cm long.<br />

Originally purple and turning straw coloured. Flowers in<br />

Summer.<br />

leaves: Many, tightly rolled, up to 50 cm long and emerging<br />

from the base. Finely serrated, green but becoming bleached<br />

as they mature.<br />

stems: Up to 1 m, erect but becoming droopy. Flower heads<br />

bear at the end of stems.<br />

Note: Unpalatable, invasive and a prolific seeder (approx.<br />

100,000 seeds per plant). Weed of National Significance.<br />

similar Native species: Could be confused with native<br />

Spear grasses (Austrastipa spp.).<br />
