Regionally Controlled Weed<br />
Prairie Ground Cherry<br />
Description: An erect perennial growing up to 60 cm tall.<br />
flowers: Yellow, bell shaped, 2-3 cm in diameter. Made up<br />
of 5 petals. Produced in Summer on short stalks from upper<br />
leaf axils.<br />
leaves: Light green, lance shaped with wavy margins. Fine<br />
hairs on edges and veins. 4-6 cm long and up to 4 cm wide.<br />
stems: Branched, spreading, vertically ribbed with very short<br />
hairs.<br />
fruit: An orange berry when ripe, enclosed in a bladder or<br />
Chinese lantern like case approx. 2-2.5 cm diameter.<br />
Note: Deep rooted and difficult to control.<br />
similar Native species: Unlikely to be confused with native<br />
species.<br />
