Description: Evergreen tree or bushy shrub from 5-15 m tall.<br />
flowers: Fragrant, creamy white and 4-5 mm long with 4<br />
lobes. In small clusters throughout Spring.<br />
fruit: Green, turning purple to black when ripe, 2-2.5 cm<br />
long and 1 cm wide containing a hard seed.<br />
leaves: Opposite, glossy dark green above and silvery<br />
below. 3-8 cm long and 1 cm wide.<br />
stems: Erect, greenish to black and branching with rough<br />
bark.<br />
Note: Cultivated for food, a source of oil and wood is used<br />
for cabinetwork and furniture.<br />
similar Native species: Unlikely to be confused with native<br />
species.<br />
